Students living in a FEMA-designated North Carolina disaster-declared county are eligible to submit their application to UNC Asheville for free through December 1. We have also extended the Early Action deadline for students living in these counties.

UNC Asheville Transfer Requirements

Our transfer-friendly policies make it easy to start your journey at UNC Asheville. Transfer students typically have a cumulative college GPA of 2.5 or higher. To be considered, you must be eligible to return to the last school you attended. Send us your:

  • UNC Asheville Transfer Common Application or CFNC Application
  • $75 application fee or a fee waiver
  • Official college transcripts: from all institutions attended (including credit and withdrawals)
  • Official high school transcripts: only required if you are under 21 years old and have fewer than 24 completed credits at time of application

Transfer Application Deadlines

After the priority deadline listed below, transfer applications will be considered on a rolling, space available basis.

  • Spring Enrollment Priority Deadline: November 15.
  • Fall Enrollment Priority Deadline: June 15.

Transfer Admission FAQs

Use UNC Asheville’s transfer credit equivalencies guide to see how you can transfer different types of credit, including AP, A-Level, CLEP, and IB. You can also estimate your credits’ transfer eligibility using our transfer equivalency self-service degree audit tool.

There is no set limit to credit transfers, but you must complete your final 30 credit hours at UNC Asheville. Review our transfer policies and resources for more details about specific subjects, community college transfers, and our articulation agreements.

If you’ve completed an AA, AS, or AFA from a North Carolina Community College, your degree will transfer to UNC Asheville as block credit that satisfies most of the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum requirements. If you haven’t completed a degree, you can transfer most community college courses according to our common course equivalencies.

We recommend reviewing the following three resources provided by UNC Asheville, the UNC System, and the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) while planning your community college coursework.

Transfer students are eligible for select departmental and university scholarships during their time at UNC Asheville, and receive a notification to apply from the Office of Financial Aid during the school year. They are not eligible for University Merit Award upon admission.

In-state residents whose adjusted gross income is $80,000 or less are eligible for Access Asheville, which guarantees tuition and fees are covered by grants.

You will not be required to live on campus, but you are welcome to! Apply early, as on-campus housing for transfer students is limited and not guaranteed. We have plenty of resources for your transition to life at UNC Asheville, and our Housing and Residence Life Team is ready to help.

As long as you meet the qualifying requirements, UNC Asheville will offer you direct admission if you are transferring from AB Tech, Blue Ridge Community College, Haywood Community College, or South Piedmont Community College.

Meet Ralph Day, music technology major and AB Tech Community College transfer student. Ralph is also a recipient of the CORE Scholarship, a partnership between UNC Asheville and AB Tech Community College that provides transfer students with a full scholarship at AB Tech for two years to earn their associate’s degree and for two years at UNC Asheville to complete their bachelor’s degree.
